Site Analysis

Understanding your site will be one of the most important ingredients to making your project a success – no matter how flat or unassuming you think it is. Climate, topography, vegetation, soil conditions, solar orientation, views, and utilities are all important elements to understand. Combining this understanding with your Program is what this phase is all about. Without it, any building design work will be almost useless.

“No one should engage in site design who does not have a passion for the land, who is not as fascinated by the amazing variations of site charachter as a teacher is fascinated by the amazing variations of the human personality.” – Kevin Lynch

Orientation

If you do nothing else, at least get this right.
